After an anxious time in hospital

I will never be the same

As most of you know I came into the hospital last September for a three-night stay for a small operation. Unfortunately, I contracted a hospital-acquired pneumonia. At its worst, I was given three hours to live. Now fortunately after six months, I’m well enough to leave the hospital.

I will be moving into a nursing home in Nottingham at the beginning of April, where I will receive the twenty-four-hour care that I need. I am looking forward to leaving the hospital. To be back in a different environment, a more homely one. One where I will hopefully be able to get out and about again.

Obviously having been in the hospital for so long, going to a new place will be daunting. I’m going to have to get used to new carers and routines. Build up new relationships and get to know a new city but I am ready for it.

I have a lot to be grateful for in the hospital. Obviously, they saved my life more than once. There have been other positives too – one of the biggest things is I’ve lost over four stone in weight! Now being a bigger lady I needed to lose weight. Being so ill and having no appetite gave me the perfect opportunity. Below are two photos, one taken at home last June and the second at Christmas this year. You can clearly see the difference. I’ve lost even more weight since Christmas.

Another big positive has been getting physical pain under control. I suffer from lymphoedema in both of my legs. This has seen me confined to a wheelchair and in a great deal of physical pain. The doctors have finally got me on a good pain regime which greatly reduces the level of pain. That had a positive knock-effect on other things like my mental health and well-being

I would like to end this post with a massive thank you to all my friends for the love care and support shown to me, especially over the last six months. It’s been a particularly stressful season, and I couldn’t have got through it without you guys ❤️
